Sync Review: No-Nonsense File Sync across your devices

We’ve tested so many cloud-based storage services to your Mac that our heads start to turn, and Sync.com is easily one of the most non-nonsen options.

Its Mac app is fundamental, but its focus on security is undoubtedly doing it best for corporate users. It is thanks to end-to-end encryption, something that is not offered by many rivals, while its vaulting function allows you to keep files in the cloud that are not synchronized across devices.

These are combined with a light interface to make the synchronization easy to recommend to almost anyone, although it may not be as familiar as those as Dropbox and Google Drive, which may be making others on board a little harder.

First impression

Once you’ve put together a synchronization account, you can start using the web app immediately. While some options, like iCloud Drive, have slow web boundaries, Sync’s Snappy and responsive are.

This is partly because its transfer is a bit narrower – it is a document synchronization service more than a full backup solution (more on that short).

The app itself is easy to use, which is at home on your Mac’s Finder side beam so you can dump files there with ease.

Free plans offer 5 GB of space, which is not the worst but remains a certain distance behind Google offering 15 GB.

Personal plans start at $ 5 for 200 GB, but for only $ 8 you can also reach 2 TB per day. Month with additional features such as Document Previews. However, these must be paid annually.

Team plans offer 1 tb per User per Month, but again these have to be paid monthly. Opportunities with higher prices have monthly options, both for individuals and teams, but expect an outlay at first when you hit the 5 GB limit.

As mentioned above, SYNC is closer to a Dropbox alternative that offers a centralized, cloud-based storage solution for storing and synchronizing files across multiple devices.

That’s no bad thing, but it doesn’t have the robust feature set with Google Drive’s document creation tools or Backblaze’s obligation to off-site security copies.

What is here is pretty amazing, synchronizing files in the background via the Mac app. What I especially like is that clicking on the MenulinCelement brings up a recent documents list, making it easier to dive into files you’ve recently added without having to open a finder window every time.

You can also export lists of files when you need it and update your password information in the app – ideally if you prefer to change your regularly.

End-to-end encryption is the real draw here. Not many rivals offer it and it makes the Vault feature feel even more worthwhile. Droping files here is not synced with your other devices so you can use this as a kind of backup setting and CloudFiles helps you release all files from your Mac’s stock.

Foundry

Microsoft Office 365 Integration means you can also edit documents in your cloud folder, and there are also integrations for them like Slack and Adobe.

The lightweight character of the Sync app is a double-edged sword. On the one hand it runs fast and in the background.

On the other hand, it does not allow you to sync more folders so that your synchronization folder is constantly updated, but everything outside it is left uncontrollably. As a reference, Google Drive is currently syncing my desktop, documents and downloads folders with the cloud.

Finally, the 5 GB limit is certainly not the worst we have seen, but it is one way or another from the top dogs in this regard.

Should you buy SYNC?

Sync is a great cloud synchronization service that will earn many teams and users perfect. While its simple folder sync will frustrate some, others will appreciate the simplicity it provides.
