As usual, Apple is expected to launch four new iPhone models in the fall. What is unusual is how much these models are likely to deviate from each other in design conditions if the stable flow of leaks from credible sources is to be believed.
The latest of these comes from Sonny Dickson, a respected, albeit inconsistent leaks on the Apple back. Dickson released “Your first look at the iPhone 17 Dummies” to his Twitter/X account on Sunday, and the images confirm the theory that Apple reveals an unprecedented three completely different designs across the four handsets by the end of 2025.
The images allegedly show metal gums of the four iPhone 17 models coming in the fall. One is larger than the rest and has three rear chamber lenses and is obviously iPhone 17 Pro Max (or possibly Ultra); Another is smaller and also has three lenses and is obviously the 17 pro. Another device has two lenses and seems to be about the same size as the 17 PRO, and we can be pretty sure it’s the standard iPhone 17.
The remaining model, third from the left of most of the images, we can assume that the so -called iPhone 17 Air or Slim. It is thinner than the rest, surprising, but also appears to be higher than 17 and 17 pro. (It is expected to have a 6.6-inch screen that sits between 6.1 and 6.9 inches of the smaller and larger iPhones respectively) and it has only one camera lens on the back, like the iPhone 16E.
Apple has never launched iPhones with one, two, and Three lenses at the same time and this unusual black is reflected in the device’s chassis design. The Pro models with their three lenses have these mounted in a large raised module spanning almost the full width of the phone, while the iPhone 17 has its two lenses in a slim vertical module that matches it looks on the iPhone 16. Still, it has 17 air, unlike the iPhone 16E, which has no camera module, at all, its only lens built into a long horizontal. It will be very obvious to the passers -by which of the new phones you have purchased.
This is all very interesting, but it is important to be clear that this is further evidence that supports an existing theory rather than something groundbreaking. Last month, YouTuber and Leaker Jon Prosser suggested the idea of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which had their cameras in an expanded module with slightly apparently other purposes other than signaling the ownership of the latest and best iPhones. Ten days later, it seemed to have been confirmed by the leak of CAD images showing the same pattern of module design across the interval we are looking at now.
So even if it’s not new, it’s nonetheless valuable because it helps us get into the truth. You will hear many theories across the rumor cycle of an iPhone launch and many will prove to be wrong, either because the sources were bad or because Apple changed his mind. The longer a rumor is around and the more sources confirm, the more we can believe it. And with six months back until we see the iPhone 17 in the meat, this one starts to look like the right thing.
